Cohort Retention fields and settings

Every field well and every setting in the format pane of version 1.0.2.0, read from the package you download. The internal names in grey are what a PBIR file or a report-authoring agent uses. Which features need a licence is on the Cohort Retention page; every setting works in edit mode with or without one.

    Fields

    FieldTakesNeededWhat it is for
EntityentityColumnOptionalThe thing that is retained — customer, employee, patient, account. One row per entity-event.
Event DateeventDateColumnOptionalThe date of each event. The visual derives the first-event date, the cohort and the period offset from this — no DAX and no period table needed.
Cohort Date (Optional)cohortDateColumnOptionalA model-computed first-event date. Bind it when slicers filter the event table: the derived cohort would otherwise shift with the filter. When bound, it wins over the derived date.
ValuevalueMeasureOptionalRevenue, usage or hours per event. Enables value retention (NRR), ARPU and the LTV curve.
SegmentsegmentColumnOptionalSplits the board into compared segments. An entity belongs to the segment of its first event.
As Of DateasOfMeasureOptionalPins the observation date. Without it the visual uses the latest event date in the data.
Cohort (Pre-Aggregated)cohortKeyColumnOptionalPre-aggregated mode: the cohort label, one row per cohort and period.
    Period Index (Pre-Aggregated)periodIndexColumnOptionalPre-aggregated mode: the whole-number period offset (0, 1, 2 …).
Active Count (Pre-Aggregated)activeCountMeasureOptionalPre-aggregated mode: entities active in that cohort and period.
Base Count (Pre-Aggregated)baseCountMeasureOptionalPre-aggregated mode: the cohort's base. Without it the base is the row at period 0.

    Setting a value in PBIR

In a visual.json, a setting goes under visual.objects, by card and internal name. Toggles take true or false, choices and text a value in single quotes ('auto'), numbers a D suffix (12D).
