Licensing and trials

Every visual has a free tier you can use for real, with no time limit. Premium is licensed per person, and every paid plan starts with a 30-day free trial.

The chart visuals are sold on Microsoft Marketplace: Microsoft bills you and Power BI checks the licence, so there is no key to paste and no account to create with us. The AI Chatbot is the exception, licensed on this site (see below).

From first try to a licensed team

    1. 01
Build the report firstInstall the visual for free, from Microsoft Marketplace or Get more visuals in Power BI. While you edit, every premium feature already works on your own data, with no watermark, so you know what you would pay for before you pay.
    2. 02
Start the 30-day trialOn the visual's Marketplace listing, choose the paid plan and Buy now. The first month costs nothing. Microsoft asks for a card; turn off recurring billing in the Microsoft 365 admin center if you only want to try.
    3. 03
Give licences to the readersBuy one licence per person who should see premium, in one order, then assign them in admin.microsoft.com under Billing → Licenses: person by person, or to a Microsoft Entra security group so new colleagues get one automatically.
    4. 04
Reopen the reportA new licence can take up to an hour to reach Power BI. Restart Power BI Desktop or refresh the browser, and premium is on.

Who needs a licence, and what everyone else sees

Power BI checks the licence of the person viewing the report, not of its author. Everyone who should see premium features needs one, including people who only read. The visual never punishes anyone who does not have one:

    You, editing the report
Everything, licensed or not. Edit mode previews every premium feature.
    A reader with a licence
The full visual, premium included, in Power BI Desktop and the Power BI Service.
    A reader without a licence
The free tier, plus Power BI's own short notice that the report uses a licensed feature. Never a blank visual, never a watermark.
Embedded, Publish to web, Report Server
Where Power BI says licences cannot be checked, the visual shows the full premium chart rather than lock anyone out.

An unconfigured visual uses no premium feature, so a reader only ever meets the licence notice on a visual its author deliberately upgraded.

    Certified by Microsoft

16 of our 37 visuals on Microsoft Marketplace are certified: Microsoft has reviewed their source code and confirmed they make no external calls. Only certified visuals appear in Export to PDF, Export to PowerPoint and e-mail subscriptions, and only they work in tenants that allow certified visuals alone.

Most of the others are in Microsoft's certification review. The AI Chatbot stays uncertified by design, because it talks to an AI service. In a certified-only tenant your Power BI administrator can still allow a visual as an organizational visual.

    The AI Chatbot

The chatbot talks to an AI service, so it is licensed on this site with a licence key you paste into the visual's format pane. Every free licence starts with 30 days of Professional: no card, nothing to cancel. After that it continues on the Free plan unless you choose a paid one. Plans and prices.

    Questions

What happens when the trial ends?
With recurring billing on, it becomes a paid subscription at the plan's price. With it off, the licence lapses and readers see the free tier. Your reports keep working either way.
    Monthly or yearly?
Both, per user. Each visual's page shows its prices. The price of a published plan never changes, so what you see is what you keep paying.
    Who sends the invoice?
For Marketplace visuals, Microsoft: it bills you and issues the invoices, and refunds follow the Microsoft commercial marketplace terms. For the AI Chatbot, the invoice comes from the checkout on this site.
Checkout will not take my card
Marketplace sells per country. Make sure the country chosen on the Marketplace page matches the billing country of your payment method, then choose Buy now again.
I bought a licence and still see the free tier
Check that the licence is assigned to you (buying one does not always assign it to the buyer), wait up to an hour, and restart Power BI Desktop or refresh the browser.
